Souvenir Shopping and Samyang Beach

Unfortunately, this was our last day on Jeju Island. Aiden, unsurprisingly was thankful to be nearing the end of our 3 weeks in Korea. We had to be checked out of the Airbnb by 11:30 and because our flight was scheduled to depart at 6:20 that left us with quite a bit of time to kill. As the great planner Kristin is, she decided that we would go souvenir shopping to help pass some time as Aiden and I have money to spend from Grandma & Grandpa. Aiden got some weird orange thing that he is oddly obsessed with. Apparently it is made out of real rabbit fur or something like that. I got like a otter with an orange for my key, a pair of orange (in the shape of 2 oranges) sunglasses, and a glass with sunrise peak molded into the bottom of it. After a while of walking around in the hot sun, it was obvious everyone was getting a bit restless. So we then went to our favorite restaurant in Jeju; Chicken & Dinner. We went there on the first night on the island because it was so close to our penthouse. Needless to say, we fell in love with it. The chicken was juicy, flavorful, and the skin was remarkably crispy.

After lunch Mom decided that we will go to another beach before returning our rental car. Samyang Beach to be exact. She claimed that the black sand there had healing powers for arthritis and other stuff like that. It was not as nice as Hyeopjae beach that she wrote about earlier and it was incredibly hot. The black sand essentially absorbed all of the heat. Thankfully the water was nice and cool. Luke was the only one that decided to swim, though. You can look at the image below to see a picture of him in the water.

Luke in the water.
That was taken in a rather large rock formation in the water. I assume that it is only visible during low tide because it was low tide when we visited that beach. It was rather cool and interesting. I would insert a picture but I do not have any so ask either Luke or Kristin if you would like to see a picture of it. After the beach we had to sadly go return our rental car. It was a Kia Carnival so I was not all that upset as I do not really like Kia that much. When we started unpacking the car, I realized that I could not find my wallet. It was not in its usual spot on the back of my phone. I knew that I had taken it off before the beach but somehow it got misplaced in the car. My dad was getting pretty mad because he was stressed about idk what. After a long while of us searching and then the workers searching they told us it was nowhere to be seen. But my Dad wanted to go see in the car one last time. When we went to go see it, one of the cleaners had the back seat slid up to vacuum under, and that is when we found it.

After that we took the shuttle to the airport and settled in for our long 45 minute flight. Once we landed, we had some difficulty finding the driver K booked for us. After some time he found us and we were on our way to the Haeundae Seacloud Hotel in Busan. The driver was a little bit erratic. He slammed on the brakes a couple times and I could see his Naver screen flashing red quite a bit. Once we arrived, we settled in, and as always, my dad had something to nitpick about the room. He claimed it smelled like smoke even though no one else smelled it. After about an hour of relaxing him and Kristin went down to the square to go search for some food. They came back with some pretty good pizza which I do not have any pictures of. That rounded off the pretty uneventful day. If you would like to leave a tip of donation please comment!

  1. I love that you took a turn at writing about your trip Jordan! Great job! I know you were sad to leave Jeju Island, but it sounds like you have a lot of amazing memories (and a few souvenirs) to take with you. I have one question. Is the Porsche what your driver picked you up in? 😉
