부산 Part Two

This post is mostly just more pictures. Luke took a lot more pictures than I did on the sky capsule ride. They turned out beautiful. The boys and I are getting so tired of posing for all of his pictures. Like unbelievably sick of it. But when I look at the pictures at the end of the day, I'm always grateful to see them.

Swimming pool at our hotel- we ended up not swimming there. It was busy and they required swim caps or hats.

There were so many Korean women taking selfies at the beach. There were even places you could visit to create the most "Instagramable" picture. I hated that part. It all felt vain and self absorbed to me.

Plans are Taking Shape

 Departure day is quickly approaching! Less than 3 months away which sounds unbelievably soon. Spring sports have also begun, so life is moving at warp speed. My calendar is quickly filling up with cross country meets, golf matches, and drivers ed. June will be here before we know it! We still have no solid reservations other than our plane tickets. We need to get on that soon! It's overwhelming looking through all the different neighborhoods of Seoul. I want to stay in Insa-dong. I've heard the best things about it, it appears close to things, closer to public transportation, etc. However, the apartments there are more expensive. There's always a give and take. But we now have agreed on a broad vision of our trip. We will land in Seoul and stay there for a good 10-12 days. That will give us time to acclimate to the time zone and leave us with plenty of days to explore all the city has to offer. We've arrived

 I'm writing this at 6:30 a.m. in Korea. The windows in our apartment are large and the sun is streaming through them. I read that one way to try to combat jet lag is to expose your body to as much daylight as you can. So while I would typically be starting preparations for dinner if I was at home, today I'm trying to soak up the morning sun reminding my body that it is morning now, not evening. Yesterday we left home at 6:30 a.m. and drove to my parents' house. (Or was it yesterday? Today is Wednesday in Korea and we left on a Monday. I'm all confused). They were kind enough to drive us to the airport so we didn't have to leave our van parked for three weeks. We left early in case of traffic, but had a surprisingly smooth drive and made it to O'Hare in only 3 hours. Check in was smooth, security was LONG, but we made it to our gate with plenty of time to spare. Time to Plan

 Last night I had dinner with two dear friends. "Tell us about your trip to Korea! Where are you staying?" they asked. They looked at me incredulously when I said that I hadn't reserved anything yet. They stole glances at each other and responded, "Don't you think you should get on that?" I've been on this planet for over 4 decades and still can't figure out if I should be described as a planner or as spontaneous. I'm a planner in certain spaces of my life. I always plan what I'm going to teach each day. I've taught for 26 years yet I never completely wing it. There is always a fairly detailed plan. Every Saturday I sit down with my spiral notebook and plan meals for the week. I always have a plan for Saturday mornings- laundry, clean, groceries. Every single Saturday.
